Looks like they’re a not-so-much-HD station…
They are framing the graphics for a 4:3 screen, where national FOX has finally started framing graphics for the widescreen 16:9 screens.
If you want another mainstream example, check out NBA broadcasts by ESPN and compare to ABC. NBA games on ABC are framed 4:3, while ESPN (and everything else on ESPN) is framed 16:9. Same exact production entity, just two different viewpoints.
KTXA is owned by CBS. They probably don’t support or use Fox’s fancy-pants widescreen switcher.
Only other outlet I know of that can do that here, are the Bell channels in Canada, although TSN only uses it for simulcasts with Fox or ESPN, ironically.
